| | |
When Microsoft introduced Windows 8 by the end of last year, Lenovo launched its newest product to support Windows 8 OS, the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230U.

Carrying the screen width of 12.5 inches, the ThinkPad Twist is ultrabook convertible that has all the capabilities of a large family of Lenovo ThinkPad.

ThinkPad Twist S230U uses an Intel Core i5 or i7 and supported by 8 gigabytes of RAM and hard-drive hybrid 500 gigabyte or 128 gigabyte solid-state drive (SSD).

Resolution touch screen is standard, ie, 1,366 x 768 pixels, but has used the technology in-plane switching (IPS) and protected by Gorilla Glass.

DESIGN

Thanks to a hinge on the bottom of the screen, ThinkPad Twist S230U has three modes of use, other than as a traditional laptop. When the screen is rotated 180 degrees clockwise and pulled back, the laptop turns into a tablet computer.

Laptops can also be changed form the letter A (tent mode) so it can be used as an air-buffer tablet. Finally, the keyboard can be used as a base when making a presentation to a client or colleague.

Hinges in the middle, between the keyboard and the screen is pretty solid. When the screen is rotated back to its normal position, you will hear a click which means the screen is locked completely.

Unfortunately, the screen ThinkPad Twist is only able to recognize a five-point touch, not like those ten points Asus Taichi or Dell XPS12. Even so, the sweeping motion or pinch-zooming still feels accurate.

HYBRID FUNCTION

Like most laptops that trying to play as notebooks and tablets, had failed to maximize functionality ThinkPad Twist both. Only one function can be absolutely perfect, that is, as ultrabook.

Problems experienced Taichi and XPS12 also occur in ThinkPad Twist, ie, when used as a tablet, the size is too big. It still can be carried, but the dimensions of 313 x 236 millimeters and weighs 1.6 pounds making ThinkPad Twist less comfortable to hold too long.

Not only that, the screen ThinkPad Twist is still inferior to its competitors because it does not yet support full HD. However, the contrast and the brightness is still better than Taichi. Four modes are presented also makes the laptop is better than XPS12.

PERFORMANCE

In the market, ThinkPad Twist available in two versions, namely that uses an Intel Core i5-3317U and  Intel Core i7-3517U processor, similar to that used by Taichi and XPS12. The processor speed to 1.7 gigahertz 4 gigabytes of RAM.

In a multimedia test benchmarks, ThinkPad Twist scored 42. Meanwhile, T430u achieve a score of 44. That is, the performance of ThinkPad Twist is at a low position. Compared to Taichi, which is more expensive, ThinkPadTwist was lost. Taichi got a score of 46.

The graphics card used is Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU. But, if the ultrabook is used to play 3D games, its settings must be relegated to a low position.

FEATURES

Excellence ThinkPad Twist ultrabook is a soft keyboard for typing use. Chiclet-style keyboard, the distance between the keys large enough to be a nimble fingers dance on it without fear of press.

Another thing that is surprising is the number of input-output ports. Typically, for a sleek look ultrabook, many ports are discarded. In ThinkPad Twist it was not true.

ThinkPad Twist equipped with two USB3 ports, mini-Display port, and a micro-HDMI port for connection to an external display. In addition, there is an Ethernet cable port, four-in-one card reader, and a jack for headphones and microphones.

In general, ThinkPad Twist reliable performance, but is not the best to use as a business ultrabook. Compared to similar ultrabook, which carries two functions, namely ultrabook and tablet, ThinkPad Twist S230U considered middle class with competitive prices.
